Your Kids are Learning Your Tech Habits
Attention, tech-savvy parents! We all know that technology is a big part of our lives, and that means it’s also a big part of our kids’ lives too. But have you ever stopped to think about how your own tech habits are impacting your little ones or not so little ones?
Believe it or not, kids learn by watching and copying what we do. That means if we’re constantly glued to our screens, they’re likely to do the same. So, it’s time to take a closer look at our own tech habits and set a good example for children.
First, set some boundaries around screen time. It is tempting to check your phone every 5 minutes, been there, done that! But try to put your phone down during family time. That way, you’ll be modelling good behaviour and encouraging your kids to engage in real-life conversations instead of scrolling through social media.
It is also important to be mindful of the content you’re consuming and sharing online. Kids are like sponges, and they may pick up on negative behaviour they witness online. Use positive language and set a positive tone in your online interactions.
Lastly, it is important to remember that too much screen time can have a negative impact on our mental health and our child’s mental health. Make sure you are taking breaks from your screens and encouraging your kids to do the same. Take a walk outside, play a board game, or dance in the living room. Your kids’ will thank you for it one day.
Let’s show our kids that life is more than just scrolling through our phones.
